GOD NEEDS LEGS

God said to Abraham, “I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees” (Genesis 15:7); yet it was Abraham’s legs that did the long walk for which God appears to have taken the credit. What does that mean? The will of God often needs the legs of men. Hearing that passage, one might think that God had carried Abraham in a special business-class cloud from Ur of the Chaldees and dropped him off at his prophetic destination. Still, it was God in the legs of the man.

When God wanted Philip at Azotus, he was “caught away” from one location to the other, yet divine teleportation was not always his means of transport.  When God was sending that man to the Ethiopian eunuch, the instruction was: “Arise, and go,” and he “arose and went” and even “RAN thither” – with his legs. Was that not carnality?  Where was the flight that took him to Azotus? (Acts 8:26-30, 39-40).

Your will and your legs are important to God if you must reach your next level, and you do not have forever to be where you should have been since yesterday. There are battles that God will fight FOR you while you hold your peace (Exodus 14:14; Deuteronomy 1:30), and others that He will fight WITH you, or fight FOR you WITH you (Deuteronomy 20:4). To expect Him to fight FOR you the battle that He would fight WITH you is to make yourself an unfortunate casualty.

At the tomb of Lazarus, the power of God was present to restore the dead man to life in response to days of tears. Still, the present power of God awaited the feeble hands of men to roll away the stone they had placed there (John 11:39). Also, at the time of Elisha, it took the power of God to make a young prophet’s axe-head swim to the surface from the bottom of the river into which it had fallen, still, it needed the wearied hand of the man to pick it up and put it back on the shaft from which it had fallen (2 Kings 6:7). Had that mortal hand not stretched out pick up the miracle metal, it might have sunk back into the bottom of the river, forever thereafter lost and irretrievable.

When Deborah’s little army defeated the mighty forces of King Jabin with his 900 iron chariots commanded by General Sisera, it was said, “GOD subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan,” but it was “the HAND of the children of Israel” that did the fighting (Judges 4:23-24).  What does that mean?  God needs your legs to cooperate with His plans to get you to your next place of destiny.  Heard prophecies are often fulfilled through active legs.  Almighty as God is, He needs your legs to get you where prophecy has pointed.
