5. A Notice or a Pronouncement?

To the fallen man, God said, “cursed is the ground for thy sake.” God appeared to have cursed the ground, not the man; yet the ground was cursed “for thy sake” – for the sake of the guilty man (Genesis 3:17). God proceeded to say that man would thenceforth eat his bread “in sorrow” and “in the sweat” of his face (vv. 17-19).

It might also be argued, and very well so, that God’s statement to Adam was not the pronouncement of a curse but merely an announcement of consequences that the failure and Fall had already brought upon Adam: “cursed IS…” All the same, God never directly cursed man.

Forces from a Different Dimension

We live in a physical world ruled by laws all of which are not physical. Some time ago, a very worried priest wanted audience with me over strange crises in his marriage. As we talked, he recalled that the ancestor of his lineage is said to have warned or cursed that none of his descendants should marry from the clan that his wife had come from; that anyone would suffer specified consequences if they did. But that was in the dismissible distant and inconsequential past. All the same, he had noticed with unease that some of his kin, who had also defiantly or otherwise married from that neighbourly clan, had experienced the related concerns in their marriage, some of those concerns ending sadly in divorce. It was like the diseased pointing finger that one denied but could not hide. Was his marriage being targeted by forces from a different dimension?

Sons or Lands?

To Isaac, God gave the gift of sons. To Esau, God gave a territory. To Jacob, there was no apparent inheritance given. He was sent off into exile. What does that mean? Which inheritance is nobler: sons or lands or ‘Nothing’? To one, He gave men; to the other, He gave property; and to the last, nothing. Which is a more attractive possession in the short term, and which in the long run: sons in whom to sacrificially invest for a lasting harvest, or a ready vast land to cultivate for a sooner harvest of perishable crops?

The sun warms, but it can also burn. God is love, but He is also consuming fire. Normally, nobody wants wars; but sometimes that it what it takes to gain peace and enlarge territory. Peace lovers would often avoid a fight at every possible cost, therefore, sometimes, God Himself sets them up for the very fight, as a means to permanently eliminating their foes and enlarging their territory.

WHEN REALITY CONTRADICTS PROPHECY

Human comprehension of spiritual reality is sometimes at odds with that reality, which does not eliminate the reality. Sometimes what God assures is not what we see. In fact, what He assures sometimes seems to run so counter to common sense that we are forced to wonder if we were not being fooled.

Nature provides us with profound lessons that we often miss in our haste through labyrinthine libraries and the riddles of barren sages. In “The Tables Turned,” William Wordsworth the English Romantic poet appropriately and passionately calls, “Come forth into the light of things, / Let Nature be your teacher.”

PASSOVER WATCH: NIGERIA!

In Part 3 of 3 of a much-publicized recent post by The Preacher entitled “What’s in a Date?” the following prophetic call was made to the nation in the subsection captioned “Nigeria’s Date with Destiny”:

Nigeria, watch your Passover in 2023. May it be seven watchful days of fasting and penitence, that Haman’s dates might turn in his own face; that he shall hang in his own gallows on his evil dates during Easter 2023. Amen.

Since that message, there have been fond enquiries about the exact dates for this week of prayer and fasting. Accordingly, this is to kindly call Nigeria and Nigerians to seven days of daily fasting and prayers starting from Monday, April 3rd until Easter Sunday, April 9th. As highlighted in that call, the prayer topics shall be:

repentance for the complicity of church members with the oppressors and wasters of the land, often for thirty pieces of accursed silver,
a frustration of the calendar of blood that the wicked seeks to bring upon the nation during the season and after,
inconcealable judgment upon point-man Haman and all lofty political haters of the Church; that in this season their towering plots shall turn upon themselves.

mercy only to those who deserve it, who confess and call for it. Amen.

The End of Balaam

How did Balaam end? Shamefully. As if God had not killed the Israelites enough through his treachery, Balaam physically joined the army of Midian to fight against the people of God; from a lesser error to a greater evil. His fees were beginning to intoxicate him. He died in that battle. He never lived long enough to enjoy his wicked wages. He had carried the grace of God to a different altar than it had been designed for. He had taken grace too far for granted. He was killed by those he sought to kill. He joined the kings of God’s enemies, in battle against Israel (Numbers 31:8). Probably considering himself also as some kind of a ‘king’ of God, when those kings went to war, he went with them: His Royal Eminence, Mighty International Prophet Balaam, the man who sees with his eyes open. Obituary. Sunset. Grace expired. He didn’t live another day to prophesy (or sorcery-fy) his next lie.

CROSSING THE RED SEA WHILE IT’S PARTED STILL

He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.

Psalm 66:6.

There are two sides to any miracle: the God side and the human side. There were two sides to the miracle of the Red Sea: the rod of God that parted the sea, and the feet of the people that walked through it (Exodus 14:21-22). There are no ferries or buses at the parted Red Sea, only legs. Who fails to use their wearied legs to cross when Divine Opportunity opens a path might sooner contend afresh with Pharaoh chasing from behind; the same Pharaoh from whom they have been fleeing.

Once upon a time, a very ambitious but unqualified politician consulted with his people, that he must be king. He was desperate and indiscriminate in how he pursued the ambition. He couldn’t care even if it meant covenants with devils or killing his own brothers – in “his father’s home.” He couldn’t care even if he had to burn down a whole city, staining the land with blood.
